IPUG Students Share Traditional Street Games from Six Countries at FunBeida Festival

IPUG students participated in 2027 FunBeida Streetplay for Children Festival, introducing traditional games from Colombia, Guatemala, Indonesia, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and the Philippines to local children and families.

The activity brought cultures together through play. Children enthusiastically joined Guatemala’s Gallina Ciega (Blind Chicken), tried their aim at the Philippine slipper-throwing challenge, and watched an IPUG student demonstrate impressive skills with Colombia’s traditional spinning top, trompo. At other stations, children explored Indonesian batik patterns, raced with coconut-shell stilts, and enjoyed a fish-biscuit-eating competition inspired by Timor-Leste.

Beyond the games, the festival offered opportunities for cultural exchange and community engagement. Thai students warmly encouraged even shy children to participate, while curious parents chatted with students about their home countries. Students from different backgrounds also supported one another across activity stations, demonstrating the teamwork and multicultural spirit of the IPUG community.

Through these childhood games, IPUG students connected with local families and shared their cultural heritage in a joyful, welcoming atmosphere. The event showed how simple activities can cross cultural and linguistic boundaries, bringing people together through play.

IPUG sincerely thanks FunBeida and Christine Yuihwa Lee, founder of the FunBeida Streetplay initiative, for making this meaningful cultural exchange possible.
