Urban Governance and Global Connectivity: Lessons from Singapore

The special lecture, “Seeing the World from Lion City: Urban Governance and Global Connectivity,” by Mr. Zhou Yimin was a thought-provoking exploration of Singapore’s urban development journey.
Mr. Zhou highlighted Singapore’s pivotal role as a global hub 🌏, despite its compact size of just 734 km² and a population of 6 million.
Managing such a high-density city 🏙️requires strategic planning, smart resource utilization, and strong international cooperation 🤝.
Singapore’s connectivity to 150 airports ✈️and 120 ports ⚓underscores its reliance on clean, efficient sea corridors and robust infrastructure.
Facing challenges like limited land 🌿, water scarcity 💧, and energy needs ⚡, Singapore demonstrates innovative solutions such as desalination, green energy 🌱, and meticulous urban planning.
The lecture also emphasized the importance of political consensus and collaboration with partner agencies to sustain its high quality of life 😊while preserving reserved lands.
This event provided an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences between Taipei City and Singapore 🇸🇬, offering valuable insights for future urban governance.
A heartfelt thank you to the IPUG students who actively participated, making the session even more enriching!
