Taiwan-Thailand Academic Exchange: Advancing Urban Governance and Resilience
🌏【Urban Governance ✕ International Exchange】
Welcoming Thammasat University Delegation to NTPU for a 3-Day Academic and Cultural Exchange!
From April 8–10, 2025, the International Program on Urban Governance (IPUG) and the Graduate Institute of Urban Planning at NTPU hosted a three-day exchange with esteemed guests from Thammasat University’s Faculty of Architecture and Planning and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA). The delegation included Prof. Nij Tontisirin, Assoc. Prof. Sutee Anantsuksomsri, six students, and the Director of Urban Regeneration from BMA, Ms. Tipsukon Choungthong.
🗓 Day 1 Highlights
We kicked things off with warm greetings from Dean Dr. Wei, IPUG Director Dr. Chiu, and Urban Planning Institute Director Dr. Yeh. A special highlight was Ms. Choungthong’s inspiring keynote speech on Bangkok’s resilience planning: “Adapt, Survive, Thrive: Resilience for a New Urban Future.” An insightful Q&A session followed, bridging knowledge across borders.
🗓 Day 2 Highlights
The group visited the National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR) to learn about Taiwan’s cutting-edge disaster response strategies. In the afternoon, we explored Guangci Social Housing in Taipei, focusing on inclusive design and integrated care services.
🗓 Day 3 Highlights
We visited the New Taipei City Urban and Rural Development Department and took a field trip to Wugu Green Land—once a landfill, now a model for urban ecological transformation. A fantastic example of how policy, planning, and community come together to reshape cities.
This exchange strengthened academic ties between Thailand and Taiwan, fostered deeper understanding of urban governance, and opened up exciting possibilities for future collaboration, including joint research and dual-degree opportunities.
🌿 Big thanks to everyone who made this meaningful exchange happen! Let’s continue to learn, share, and grow together.
