2025 IPUG Field Trip: Smart Mobility & Cultural Space in Taipei
On Nov 21, our long-awaited IPUG Field Trip – Governance in Motion: Smart Mobility and Cultural Space in Taipei – successfully concluded! Students got a firsthand look at Taipei’s smart transportation system and experienced the vibrant transformation of public spaces into cultural hubs.
As part of our Urban Governance program, we visited the Taipei Traffic Control Center, normally closed to the public. With an English guided tour, students learned how intelligent transportation systems (ITS), real-time traffic management, MaaS integration, and green mobility initiatives are implemented in Taipei. AR-based safety simulations and public transit innovations provided an eye-opening glimpse of how technology, governance, and citizen services combine to create a smart city.
After lunch at the 1914 Creative Park, students explored this former sake brewery turned creative hub. Through citizen initiatives and government-led revitalization, the site now hosts art exhibitions, performances, and design markets. Students enjoyed wandering around, sipping coffee, and immersing themselves in a space where historical heritage meets creative economy and community vitality.
